Your alarm goes off. It’s 6am.
You’ve heard the Apple radial sound so many times that the notes in your ear don’t so much as inspire your eyes to open as your heart to drop into your chest as you awake from the only reprieve you feel like you have: sleep.
And you know you didn’t get enough of it, because you were up late scrolling on TikTok avoiding the Sunday Scaries by digging into some Australian/Mormon mom drama or evaluating someone’s sour candy creation.
You snooze the alarm to try to get some more relief, but the unwavering fear of looking bad at work is all that gets you up and into the bathroom to brush your teeth and start another day.
As you go through your morning routine you count the bad things that happen: out of toothpaste, hair isn’t coming out how you want it to, you miss the train by 30 seconds, and your headphones are dead.
At the office, you complain to whoever will listen and go into autopilot to complete your tasks before heading home, exhausted. You don’t feel like working out or cooking, so you spend $30 you don’t have on DoorDash, which doesn’t really hit. Nothing feels inspiring, so all you can do is turn your brain off, so you numb with a glass of wine, a joint, terrible reality TV, or sometimes all three.
Memes on the internet support this lifestyle: it’s so hard to be an adult, all we do is work, everything sucks, and you start to wonder if it always has to be like this.
Twice in the past two years, the “dream life” (hate that term sry) I’d created for myself stopped feeling dreamy and started feeling empty. I knew I theoretically loved my job, my friends, my city, but my driven, joyful personality was nowhere to be found.
Half of women describe themselves as super ambitious, and those are the types of women that change the world. But at the same time, half of women are burnt out.
We simply cannot create the lives we want without confronting and preventing this phenomenon, so in this episode, I’m giving you the 4-step framework I discovered (with help!) that’s brought my spark back, and will hopefully (!!!) keep me from losing it again.
I hope you love this episode, and I can’t wait to hear your feedback!
xx,
Alexis
